December and January at Clayton
We begin our Christmas season on Dec 4th when we are having our Toy service for Wood Street Mission. (see article on page 7 &8 in the December 2016 Magazine)
On Dec 18th is our Annual carol service led by Colin Charlesworth, where as many of us wish to, take part. Please speak to Colin if you wish to contribute in anyway, helping to make the service special.
After the Carol service, we will hold our Christmas bring-and-share lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit the two local care homes to sing carols. Please come and join us to help our neighbours celebrate the birth of Christ. There will be no service in the evening.
Our Christmas Day service (Dec 25th) is at 10:00am, and on New Year’s Day the service is our annual covenant service led by our minister, Joy Rulton. This is a very special time when we as Methodists, re-commit ourselves to God. From the earliest days of the Methodist societies, John Wesley invited the Methodist people to renew their covenant relationship with God. Wesley drew much of his material for the service from the seventeenth century Puritans and made changes to it. The covenant prayer begins: ‘I am no longer my own but yours. Put me to what you will, Rank me with whom you will….’
