Clayton Methodist Hits 111 Years!
Church Anniversary is a time for thanking God for the past and looking to the future. We had an excellent day, despite the heat, with over 70 members and friends attending worship, aged 2 months to 91 years!
Church anniversaries can be seen as a time to thank God for creation. Bricks and mortar are part of God's making; stones are composed of once living creatures - including our ancestors.
Many churches hold their anniversary near the time when the first building was opened or renewed, or sometimes when the first 'Society' met in the area. In the case of Clayton Methodist Church, our current premise was built and complete in 1905 as a Sunday School building, at a cost of just less than £1500!
Still standing at 111 years later, we remember that 'church' in the New Testament means the 'people of God' so a church anniversary is a time for celebrating the life and witness of all who have gone before us and those who serve today.
What a joy to see so many of us worshipping together and celebrating. We thank Rev. Stuart Wild and Rev. Sue Williams for leading worship on this special day and for so many who helped make it memorable with food and cakes and fellowship. We do hope Hilda and Myra enjoyed their special birthday cakes..
